From the winemaker:
Located in the hills south of Napa, above an old limestone quarry that supplied much of the concrete used to rebuild San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake, Watson Ranch is extremely coastal and cool, with a strong mineral component that makes it one of the most distinctive sites in all of California.
What’s remarkable about the 2020 Chardonnay, is how it begins with such briny, acid driven minerality and evolves to show such exotic and delicate notes of “ethereal sweetness” – that may make my tasting notes seem a bit confusing. To be clear, this wine is completely dry and contains absolutely no sugar. It is extremely elegant, both aromatically and on the palate, with mouthwatering acidity and true lightness of being. As it opens up, floral aromatics and layers of lacy vanilla emerge that take it to another level. It is a stunning and transformative wine now, and should have serious aging potential.
