Citrine is a gemstone of “yellow quartz”. Citrine Chardonnay is made with an eye towards a balance of golden California sun and a gentle kiss of minerality.
Vineyards: Blend of four different vineyards with an average age of almost 40 years. The base of the blend (50%) is a block of 42 year old, own-rooted vines at Rorick Heritage Vineyard in the Sierra Foothills. The blend also includes fruit from Haynes, Heron Lake & Brosseau vineyards.
Vinification: The Chardonnay grapes were gently whole cluster pressed and lightly settled. Barrel fermented with native yeast and full native ML fermentation it was aged on its own lees for 12 months in barrel, blended and bottled unfined and unfiltered.
This wine was bottled using Plantcorc-a sugar cane based cork alternative.
Tasting notes: This wine exhibits a balance of tropical fruit and foral aromatics with surprising acid and a subtle creaminess. It is juicy, mineral, a little bit saline and shows some savory notes on the finish. Intense on the palate but not heavy and showing nice finesse, this wine is distinctly Californian with nice lift, similar to what we would expect from Chardonnay from southern Burgundy.
