Old vines, many dating to the late 1940s. Hand harvested in small crates. 35 day maceration and fermentation before pressing into large Slavonian oak ovals for aging over a 24-28 month period.
Until 1998, the fruit for this wine came exclusively from and old-vine plot of Barbera located in the prized Barolo vineyard, Bricco delle Viole, above Verne, where the winery is located. Since then, an equal amount of fruit now comes from a steep sloped high quality vineyard, Bricco Bertone in Sinio, located in the Talloria valley near Serralunga d’Alba.
Deep purple color with a brooding and layered nose showing raspberry, red & black currants, and spicy plum. In the mouth, this is a very noble Barbera with great density, supple tannins and loads of red stone fruit. Shows well young, but will reward cellar aging of 5-10 years.
