Nobody is sure how old the vines are that grow in this vineyard located in the village of Molinillo, but most people believe that they are nearly 100 years old. This site seems particularly well situated in that the soils manage to maintain sufficient levels of humidity for these ancient dry farmed vines to make it through the hot summers of the Sierra de Salamanca. There are high levels of flint and minerals, which some say give the wines a smoky quality in the nose.
Flint, cherries and pomegranate tinted with notes of coffee lead into a wine with nice balance, discreet oak notes and plenty of length and dark fruit. Whole clusters used in the fermentation give the wine a graceful, slightly herbal edge that is quite intriguing. This is very complex and serious wine, though not overly structured.
