Pere Guardiola

Founded in 1871, the winery began cultivating vineyards and making wine for personal consumption and wholesale distribution.  In the 1920s, Pere Guardiola took over the company and it has carried his name since.   In the 1940s, the old vaulted cellars in the center of the village of Capmany were deemed too small, and a larger building was constructed outside the village.  This enabled the family to purchase more vineyards and increase production.  In the 1980s, the property expanded more with vineyard purchases and it currently encompasses 28 hectares of vines with 6 more hectares planted, but not yet in production.

There are two branches of the company.  The first described above, began focusing on producing only estate-bottled wines under the Floresta label.  The second carries on the regional tradition of producing quality wines made from grapes purchased locally from growers with whom the family has had ties for several decades.  The latter forms the Rocaberdi line.  These wines are made from grapes grown to Pere Guardiola’s specifications and are blended with some of the wines from the estates vineyards to make up a high quality, reasonably priced group of wines.

All of the wines are produced in Pere Guardiola’s state of the art wine-making facilities in Capmany, located in the foothills north of Figueres just south of the French border in northeast Spain.
