2017 was the earliest harvest and in Barrel by early September. The grapes were harvested on an average of 25 Brix in mid-August and fermented in open top fermenters for 14 days.
Bountiful black cherries and mountain berries with the distinctive zin pepper and brightness of the Sky fruit are the stars of the 2017 Zin. This wine has more power and concentration than the previous two vintages due to the hot dry summer that led to the hellish inferno that engulfed the Sky property shortly after harvest. Miraculously, the small winery came out of the inferno scorched on the outside but intact and smoke-free on the inside. This is one of the rare great red wines produced in the area in 2017 that was not affected by smoke taint.
