Long before it was planted to vineyards, the area encompassing our Estate was under
water, the floor of an ocean embayment that extended inland through modern-day Sebastopol. Through a series of tectonic shifts, the earth was ultimately transformed into the now iconic rolling hills of West Sonoma County. The sandy loam remnants of the ancient sea are still present in the Goldridge soil, and the Estate-grown SeaBed Chardonnay serves as a vestige of this history. With the vineyard blocks maturing and hitting their stride, the 2021 SeaBed serves as our sixth vintage of Chardonnay from the Estate. And with clear consistency, each SeaBed bottling has featured a striking salinity befitting its marine name, with the 2021 being no exception.
With its dynamic tension and hallmark salinity, the 2021 SeaBed is a seriously
sophisticated expression of Chardonnay from the Estate. Inviting aromas of fresh lychee
and fragrant gardenia beckon alongside citrusy-vanilla lemon meringue. The focused
entry yields to energetic acidity on the palate, as exciting notes of lime zest, spearmint, and sweet pea spring forth. Multilayered in mouthfeel, the 2021 SeaBed slowly reveals its distinguished charms, culminating in a lingering, pithy, mineral-driven finish.
“A ripe and youthful golden appearance, the 2021 Chardonnay SeaBed Estate is
expressive and rounded with ripe Anjou pear, orange zest, and sea spray. Medium-
bodied, with a supple texture and a spine of refreshing acidity, it has notes of
lemon custard and ripe apple, with snappy freshness and delicate oak spice. It’s
well-balanced and long on the palate. Drink 2025-2035.”
