After growing grapes for others for four generations, brothers Gaetano and Pio Francesco Tamellini founded their winery in 1998 in order to introduce a truly noble alternative which hearkens back to a time before the vast sea of mediocre wine bearing the Soave DOC became ubiquitous in the market. Gaetano runs the farming side and Pio Francesco is the winemaker, and this is a labor of love.
Their vineyards are in the heart of historical Soave near the city of Verona in an area called Costeggiola. The soils are contain limestone and old volcanic soils that are great for the native Garganega grape. Care is taken in the vineyard and in the cellar to be as natural as possible with the wines . . . cover crops, no herbacides or pesticides, copper and sulphur to fight mildew but that is about it . . . very much in line with our philosophy of do no harm. In the cellars, the emphasis is on purity of fruit and a sense of place. No makeup in the form of new oak is used.
