Burgundy has proven that quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir can be grown in the same soil, with the Corton hill being the classic example. Wines from this special place inspired our decision to make Chardonnay from the Savoy Vineyard, whose soil and climate are also ideal for both Burgundian varietals. In 2021, we were fortunate to experience a near-ideal growing season sans weather extremes. For the Savoy Chardonnay, following a gentle whole cluster press, we chose to incorporate larger format 500L puncheons over a 16-month élevage in the cellar, which elegantly preserved the fruit and freshness currently found in bottle.

The 2021 Savoy Anderson Valley Chardonnay unfolds with heady notes of ripe nectarine, floral honeysuckle, and a touch of fresh mango,
enlivened by a bright, citrus twist. The rich aromatic profile is reflected on the palate in the rounded, supple mouthfeel, itself elegantly lifted by crisp, refreshing acidity. A warm, toasted element reminiscent of freshly baked challah weaves throughout the expressive fruit and along the lengthy yet youthful finish. Brimming with complexity and at once both luxurious and invigorating, the 2021 Savoy Chardonnay is a harmonious integration of classic Anderson Valley fruit character.

“Savory and ripe, there’s a more rounded feel to the 2021 Chardonnay Savoy. It pours a medium yellow and reveals aromas of fresh herbs, umami with seaweed, and fresh white flowers. Full-bodied, with a supple texture and notes of ripe pear, green melon, and banana rind, it’s savory and has balanced richness. Drink it over the next ten years.”
