50+ year old vines are located on a single, small isolated slope, quite steep, sheltered from the wind by a line of trees to the north and west, facing southeast all make for an ideal situation for optimal ripening. The soil is extremely meagre Kimmeridgian, very shallow, but very complex, with siliceous rock as well as fossilized limestone; the stress on the vine is ideal for production of fine aromatics and moderate yields. The density and length in this wine comes not only from the site, but the age of the vines.
From an excellent vintage, this wine soars over anything else from the appellation. Great minerality is complimented in the nose by exotic aromas of mango, citrus and floral notes. In the mouth it is quite rich, but retains excellent acidity, a vintage trademark. It shows classic flint and limestone coated with creamy rich fruit. No oak used here, but one might be fooled as the package is so complete.
