Vineyard: Baytree Lane Vineyard is in the coastal hills west of the town of Sonoma. These 10-year-old vines were thought to be Pinot Noir until last year, when a mix up was discovered and the entire block was determined to be Gamay. A happy accident allowed this wine to be born from a region where it is
economically difficult to plant anything other than Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Winemaking: The grapes were fermented 100% whole cluster with native yeast in the traditional style of Carbonic Maceration – in a closed tank protected with CO2. The wine was aged for 5 months in old 500 L French oak puncheons on primary lees and underwent full ML fermentation. The wine was bottled in March, un-fined & unfiltered with nothing added but minimal effective SO2.
Notes: The prettiest of the pretty! Gamay is one of my favorite wines to drink for its purity, freshness and joy. In delicate hands it can even be ethereal, with an otherworldly elegance that rivals great Burgundy. This is a delicately fruited and deeply perfumed wine that rings true Gamay to its core. Bottled with minimal
SO2 this wine is gloriously fresh and ready to bring a smile to your face.
